As you can see from the trail pics, we don't go for the 'extreme' trails, just some fun trails with great views. (click on any image to start a slide show)
Getting to the campsite was half the fun, since we didn't leave until after work on a Friday. The place we were trying to find is about halfway between Monarch Pass & Gunnison, and quite a few miles north of US-50. So, we finally find our turn off of 50, and head towards Ohio. Once we got to Ohio, we made the left & headed up towards the campground.
Jeff & Kim got there the day before & had a great spot picked out. It had been a very wet spring, so the creek was very full & sounded beautiful from the campsite. After getting into camp & getting setup, we were ready for a beer!
The next day we decided to find a trail. Jeff, Jason, & the Kims aren't much for off-roading, so they stayed behind and tried to catch some fish.
This was one of our first trips out with the '98 ZJ. Angie had not done much off-roading when we did this trip, so it was good to get her feet wet.
We left our campsite and headed south down CR-171 for about half a mile. We then turned east on 771a, and then to NF-879. At this point the trail was pretty tame. After about 2.5 miles, the trail became a much more narrow shelf road. While there were plenty of trees on either side, it was still a pretty good drop on the passenger side (where I was).
We found a couple of spur trails and got some nice photos, it was a pretty good time. Since this was one of our first trips, we didn't get very many scenic photos, but definetly check out our "Jeep Commerical" photo.
